What kind of doctor should I see?

If you have not been diagnosed with an asbestos disease,

Largely, my clients' asbestos diseases have been in or around their lungs. In those cases, a lung specialist, or pulmonologist, is the right doctor to see. Tell the doctor about your asbestos exposure history. The doctor will know what to do. If your doctor does not order a CT scan, ask her if that would be appropriate. In my line of work, I find them more helpful than x-rays because CT scans are higher resolution radiographic images than x-rays.

Some of my clients have had asbestos diseases in their abdomen, a disease called peritoneal mesothelioma. They saw gastroenterologists, or stomach specialists. If you have had an asbestos exposure history and are experiencing symptoms in your abdomen, gastroenterologist may be the right doctor for you, at least to start.

Asbestos diseases can manifest in other parts of the body, as well. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
